BASE developed the concept of the Century Boulevard Pedestrian Street Improvement and Beautification project. Instrumental in filing the City of Los Angeles’s Call for Projects application to Metro for construction funding, the project consists of reconstructing an existing 100-ft wide, 3-mile right-of-way, from La Cienega Boulevard to Van Ness Avenue. New elements include: 530 shade trees, 368 palms, 28 bus stop gardens/shelters with street furniture, 550 12-ft-high pedestrian light fixtures, and traffic signals at four locations. Other improvement efforts include residential gateway planting, approximately 12,500 linear feet of center median to provide safe crossing and refuge for pedestrians, a major water feature at the La Cienega Gateway into the City, and major surface treatment at 4 main intersections.
